Broker of Record
Since its establishment as a brand in early 2008, “Your Hometown Realtors” just seemed like a natural fit. Two local realtors, involved in the community, join forces to represent a wide variety of homes and businesses in the Wellington and surrounding area. They do this consistently in the top 10% of sales nationally.
I have always had a passion for real estate. Shortly after graduating Conestoga College in the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program, I started a small building maintenance service, essentially property management. This translated into investing in rental properties in Waterloo and Centre Wellington. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy every aspect of classic cars and power sports.
Since then I have joined Royal LePage and the Guelph and District Association of Realtors. I currently serve on the G.D.A.R.’s Board of Directors, chair of the Publicity Task Force and have recently joined the Local Market Task Force. Locally, I am a member of the Elora Buisness Improvement Area executive and serve as Secretary Treasurer. I believe acting in these capacities not only gives back to the organizations that have been key in my successes, but also grants me the opportunity to be at the fore front of ideas and concepts that will shape the future.
I look forward to sharing this great community with you.
A member of the Guelph and District Association of Realtors and the MLS system for the past 26 years. After serving 5 years as a board director I became board president in 1991. Our 17 office locations have over 350 agents in South Central Ontario for wide exposure and a great marketing area for all our listings.
Consistently I have been in the top 10% in sales and achieved Realty World Presidents Sales Master designation for being #1 in sales production in 1986, for the province.
Graduating from Ontario Agricultural College in 1966 I took a management position with United Cooperative of Ontario and in 1969 became part owner and manager of Fergus Building Supply, a lumber company that we started and ran successfully for 10 years. In 1983 I signed on with our office and become a registered real estate broker.
A member of the Elora Lions club for 28 years and involved with several community fundraising committees and projects, improving our neighbourhood.
Married with 2 daughters we now have 6 wonderful grand children who enjoy spending time on our 50 acre farm and fishing in the farm pond on our property. Building a couple of new homes in the area did not prepare me for the restoration of our 1865 stone home which has been a great experience. A busy career has not prevented me from enjoying some time at the cottage and some long awaited travelling time. I enjoy working in this great area and delight in finding the right property for a client knowing that they also will fall in love with our community.
“Working as a realtor, and consulting with people, stimulates my mind, and stirs my heart… I feel confident knowing I work with integrity, enthusiasm and dedication with our clients.”
Megan Thoms-McDougall Born and raised in Centre Wellington, I have always enjoyed working with people and being of service to my community. Real estate has always been a personal interest of mine, and with over a decade of experience in retail banking and more than 20 years of customer service and volunteerism within the community, real estate is a natural fit for me.
My personal and professional goal is to dedicate myself to the “3 C’s”: Clan, Character, and Community. My husband and I have had the great fortune of being able to raise our two young children where the roots of our both of our families are firmly planted. I began my professional career in banking at the very branch which my father commissioned to be built, and later served as manager. My husband Scott is the second generation owner of a local door and window company, a family business started by his parents.
It is through their examples of hard work, honesty, and dedication to the community that I have learned what a gift and responsibility it is to use one’s skills and character to serve others. Throughout the years, I have been involved in many community organizations, including The Elora Festival, Fergus Scottish Festival, Fergus Grand Theatre, and several years serving as president of The Fairview Ladies golf club.
It is with honor and pleasure that I have joined the team at Your Hometown Realty to continue my career in real estate, and look forward to helping each of our clients achieve their goals within this great community!
From my boyhood days I fondly remember my friends and I having grand adventures here. The possibilities were endless from the well managed organized sports to a day trekking through the gorge with a fishing pole or an old inner tube. As my own children grew and took advantage of the same activities, I had been blessed to enjoy I became involved in a different way. I coached, managed and sat on the board of directors not quite as exciting but even more fulfilling.
As a young father of three girls my working career started at a young age first as a cement finisher than as a worker in a wire mill. Like so many others this came to an end after eleven years of steady employment due to plant closure. I took this opportunity to go back to school and become a welder. I did this for seven years working my way up to Maintenance Supervisor. I decided to go back to school and graduated with a diploma in computerized accounting. I made the honour roll while working a full time job. This led me to a position working in an agricultural product manufacturing company where my duties were inside sales, material purchasing, invoicing, inventory control and production scheduling. I then became Shop manager at an environmental products company this came to an end due to the economy. That is when I decided to take control of my own future and I became a real estate professional.
For the past few years it has been my great pleasure to ensure that the real estate needs of everyone I have worked with are exceeded. I am proud to be a member of the Your Hometown Realty team and look forward to many more years of providing quality service to my clients.
My grandfather’s grandfather Alexander Johnston settled here in 1857 and my family has been here ever since. It would be an honour to show you why your family will want to put down roots here too!
